Most of the plants listed here are succulents and cacti which generally prefer to be grown outdoors, however, most can be brought indoors and thrive under the right conditions. Typically, darker leafed plants prefer low light conditions and are often suited to growing indoors for this reason. Several succulents fall into this category, like Sansevierias (Snake Plant), Crassula ovata (Jade Plants), trailing plants like Rhipsalis, Sedum (String of Pearls, Donkey’s Tail) and Senecio (String of Beans, String of Watermelons, String of Dolphins). As a rule the lighter the leaf, particularly grey leafed succulents, the more bright light they require indoors. Succulents are pretty forgiving plants, so can certainly be brought indoors for a week or two to be used for styling events, table scapes or as a shelf display, such is their versatility. Mimicking their natural habitat outdoors can prolong their time indoors too.
