Most of the plants listed here are succulents and cacti which generally prefer to be grown outdoors, however, most can be brought indoors and thrive under the right conditions. Typically, darker leafed plants prefer low light conditions and are often suited to growing indoors for this reason. Several succulents fall into this category, like Sansevierias (Snake Plant), Crassula ovata (Jade Plants), trailing plants like Rhipsalis, Sedum (String of Pearls, Donkey’s Tail) and Senecio (String of Beans, String of Watermelons, String of Dolphins). As a rule the lighter the leaf, particularly grey and red leafed succulents, the more bright light they require indoors. The more vibrant coloured succulents outdoors will lose this colour indoors as this is achieved by the sun when stressed, both in summer and winter.
